Wallpaper trends 2024 - Soft shapes and bold choices

Welcome to Aveo's exclusive insight into the wallpaper and interior trends for 2024. I am Anna Häggblom, CEO of Aveo, and I have had the privilege of being part of the interior design world for over 17 years. Over the years, I have seen trends come and go, but 2024 is a standout year. It is a year filled with renewal and rediscovery, where we embrace the soft and organic, while also celebrating the timeless and authentic. Join me on a journey through the most exciting trends that will shape our homes and hearts in the coming year. These trends are not just about surface and style; they are a reflection of our values and dreams in a time of change. Let's dive into a world of color, form, and feeling, where every choice we make reflects our personal story.

Flexible, Soft, and Accepting Shapes Dominate Wallpaper Trends in 2024

Just as we have seen before, we are influenced by our troubled world, which is reflected in what we perceive as beautiful. Sharp patterns give way to soft, flexible shapes—something we greatly appreciate because we humans thrive with soft, organic, and accepting forms.

Red, Purple, and Deep Green Wallpapers Are Making a Comeback

Red, a color that has long been absent from our walls, has begun to return, initially in the form of terracotta and warm beige shades. Now we are seeing strong red tones combined with deep, intense green shades. We strive for warmth, color, and form in our surroundings.

Colors on Colors and Geometric Patterns

We are observing an increase in wallpapers made with painting techniques, watercolor techniques, acrylic techniques, but also drawn patterns, perhaps as a reaction to all AI-generated images or because reality right now feels a bit too sharp.

Don't try to match - It still works

This is a trend that we truly love for its accepting nature. Mix what you like, whether it "matches" or not. Consider the intensity of colors and shapes, but otherwise, go all out. Take what you like and take a lot of it! So easy and so right for 2024!

Ceiling wallpapers are not a microtrend in 2024

This has long been a bubbling trend, but now we see an increase in ceiling wallpapers. Boråstapeter has launched an entire wallpaper collection that works exceptionally well on ceilings. If you want to try out the trend subtly, start with the guest toilet or laundry room. We believe this is the year when the trend of ceiling wallpapers really takes off. Our cloud-white ceilings will give way to skies in blue, with birds, leaves, and other exciting patterns.

“Life is too short for white walls and ceilings.”

William Morris – Inspiration number 1 for 2024

We see many new products reminiscent of this great designer, one of our favorites. His patterns, created without modern technology in the late 1800s, remain strong today. If you want wallpaper that still feels right in 15 years, then Morris is our recommendation.

Ecological trends – From buzzword to standard

The ecological trends that have been in focus in recent years have now become a given. In 2024, wallpapers are non-toxic, printed on certified material, and sustainability is no longer just a trend, but a part of our way of living and working.

Careful with Luxury

2024 is a year where we see a reduction of luxurious elements like gold, glitter, and general gaudiness. This can be seen as a reaction to the sustainability trend and the tough times with corona, war, and rising interest rates. But we predict a return of glamour when the world stabilizes. With peace comes freedom and glamour. So we keep our fingers crossed that we will soon see more glamour in our trends.

Dare to Choose What is Right for You Right Now

Trends are just guidelines, it's you who should live in your home, so dare to choose what you like. Brave and personal choices often lead to the most satisfying results! Even if you almost didn't dare to make the choice.  If you want help to renew your home, we are here. We help our customers according to their starting point. If we can't meet in real life, we can certainly work together digitally!
