Bolon – sustainable vinyl flooring made from industrial waste

Did you know that Aveo is a reseller of Bolon's vinyl flooring? The textile-like PVC floors have a rough texture reminiscent of carpets. They provide a cozy feeling while being easy to clean.

The floor above is called Cork and is part of the Elements collection. The collection is harmonious with warm tones. The color Cork evokes thoughts of living materials such as stone, wood, and textile.

Bolon's durable floors in different patterns and colors are suitable for public spaces such as offices, shops, and hotels, but nothing prevents them from being used in home environments as well.

The Swedish company Bolon is based in Ulricehamn (between Gothenburg and Jönköping). Bolon manufactures all floors and carpets in Sweden, partly to shorten transportation and simplify logistics, and partly to give the company full control over production.

Bolon's newest collection, Missoni Home, features many delightful colorful floors, like Petroleum.

Bolon is strongly committed to sustainable production. Today, 33 percent of the material is recycled (from their own factory and from other companies), with a goal of 50 percent in the near future. No added phthalates are used. In 2010, Bolon became the first flooring manufacturer in the world to develop a plasticizer entirely based on renewable plant-based raw materials: the Botanic collection was born. The Flow collection is Bolon's first recycled floor.

Despite focusing on sustainability and the environment, Bolon does not compromise on creating beautiful, modern, and stylish floors. Bolon collaborates with Italian fashion and design house Missoni and French architect Jean Nouvel, who have their own collections with Bolon.

Some facts about Bolon's floors:

* The floors are sound absorbing.

* They can easily be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, brush, and stain remover.

* If the floor gets damaged, gets tough stains, or holes, a piece can easily be replaced – save surplus pieces when laying the floor.

* The floor is waterproof but should still not be used in bathrooms and other wet areas.

A floor from Bolon can consist of squares or triangles from several different floors. In the image above, the floor Emotion from the Silence collection, the floors Titanium and Champagne from the Now collection, and Gabna from the Ethnic collection have been combined.

* Different Bolon floors can be combined to create unique wholes. Bolon floors are sold on rolls or tiles. The measurements for rolls are 200 centimeters by 25 meters. When sold as tiles, the standard size is 50 by 50 centimeters. Floor mats on rolls should be glued while tiles can be glued or taped.

* Bolon's vinyl floors can be installed on particle boards, plywood boards, concrete, porcelain floors, and ceramic floors. The most important thing is that the floor is flat and that the adhesive used is suitable for both the vinyl floor and the underlying layer.

* Bolon's floors are also used in hospitals and care clinics. This would not be possible if the PVC in the floors was not safe and healthy.
